General Rules for Band & Choir Festival

1.      At least 2 pieces must be performed.

2.      A total of 25 minutes will be allowed for setup, performance, and tear down.

3.      Most large percussion equipment will be provided.

4.      A non-judged warmup piece may be performed.

Solo & Ensemble Festival – Wednesday, February 10th – 4:00 p.m. start time

You have two options to participate in Solo & Ensemble Festival:

The first is by individual entries that cost $10 per event and does not include medals.

The second is by a school entry that cost $125 for up to 20 events for either MS or HS.

MS & HS entries may not be mixed to reach the 20.  MS can include 6th graders with their director’s approval.  HS events are for 9th-12th graders.

General Rules for Solo & Ensemble

1.      If a piece has an accompaniment, some sort of accompaniment must be used.  Recorded or live accompaniments are acceptable.  Accompaniments may not include the melody line.  Pianos/keyboards will be provided.  No tape players, etc… are provided.

2.      Music must be numbered and your judge must have an original score.

3.      Music must be long enough for the judge to get a clear idea of student’s abilities.

4.      Vocal and Piano events may be included.

For Time Preference write the time that you would like to play in.  For example 4-5 for 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.  You could also write early as possible or late as possible.  Events will probably go to near 8:00 p.m.

Student medals will be available for $2.50 each.

Dear Band Directors,

Thank you for your interest in the Thumb Friends of the Arts festivals.  Below is the information that you will need to be able to participate.  Please let me know if you have any questions.

Please fill out the attached forms.  I have sent two copies of each form, one for Junior High and one for High School.  Please fill them out and get them back to me along with a check no later than December 11th.  Please make the check out to “Thumb Friends of the Arts”.  This deadline is critical because it allows me to work on scheduling S&E events over Christmas Break.

The fee for S&E can be figured either way; the school or individual, whatever works out to be less expensive for you.  Please do not mix HS & MS events though.  The purpose of having the per event cost was to provide an opportunity to our area public and private schools to be able to have just a few students participate.

The Thumb Friends of the Arts organization will be running the festivals.  Donna Sting, retired Caro choir director and president of TFOTA, will be assisting in running the festivals.

If you have any questions or if anything is unclear, please let me know.  Email is probably the best way, or you can leave me a voicemail with a good time to get back with you.
